Many of you may have no clue who I'm talking about when I mention Andy Whitfield. But let me tell you a little story . . .
Andy was an amazing actor who portrayed Spartacus in Spartacus: Blood and Sand. He was a loving family man and, from what I've learned, a humble guy. At the end of the first season of Spartacus, Andy began having severe back pain. When he finally went to the doctor, he was shocked to learn he had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a form of cancer. He proceeded with chemo treatment and later ended up in remission. All seemed well before he returned to shoot season two of Spartacus. But, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that cancer's a bitch who doesn't discriminate. Andy's cancer had returned one month prior to shooting. As you can imagine, his family, friends, and fans were devastated. Starz (the production company for Spartacus) delayed season two in hopes that Andy would once again beat cancer. Unfortunately, cancer won. In the six months prior to his death on September 11, 2011, Andy invited a film crew to shoot his final moments.
This is where you guys come in.
Andy's wife, Vashti, is trying to raise money so the last six months of his life can be remembered forever. Due to the production costs associated with creating this documentary, Vashti has turned to Andy's fans for support. For more information, or to donate directly, please visit this link:

You can also help raise money for Andy's documentary another way. One of my writing friends has organized auctions on her blog. You can see the list of critiques by some awesome writers/authors + book giveaways here:
Please help us fight this disgusting disease and raise money for Andy's cause. I think he would've wanted us to remember him in both good and bad times, and wanted us to see the man who brought Spartacus to life on TV. For me, I've never been so moved by a performance as I was with Andy's. When I learned of his passing, I felt as if I had lost a close friend. I cried. A lot. I was so angry that this wonderful man had been taken too soon; from his family, including two small children, from his friends, and from his fans.
If there's one thing I ask from you this year, my friends, it's that you aid this cause.
R.I.P. Andy. We miss you. <3
This is beautiful! I loved Andy Whitfield and absolutely cried when he died. Thank you for this heartfelt post! He was and will always be Spartacus, a brave warrior who battled his very best. I will definitely be checking out the auctions and the donations for his wife.
