Book Review: Seducing the Vampire

HE WAS MESMERIZING, A VAMPIRE LIKE NONE OTHER...BUT THE FIRE BETWEEN VIVIANE AND RHYS WOULD BEGIN A CENTURIES-LONG CLASH BETWEEN TWO POWERFUL VAMPIRE BROTHERS.

In Marie Antoinette’s Paris, the beautiful vampire Viviane seeks a male patron who will allow her to live on her own terms. Courted by two feuding brothers, Viviane succumbs to the handsome rebel, Rhys. She’s unaware that Rhys has other, darker, motives. He seeks vengeance against his brother, Constantine—by stealing Viviane and tainting her with his blood.

But just as Rhys is realizing the depth of his love for Viviane, his brother takes his revenge. By casting a spell on the woman they both desire, he condemns her to a living death inside a glass coffin.

Two centuries later, Rhys hears the legend of the Snow White vampiress, imprisoned deep in the tunnels under Paris. He must find her and set her free, but will he be able to save her from the evil still intent on destroying them?

First of all, let me say that I'm not a vampire fan. Never have been, really. But the idea of an adult romance with paranormal elements appealed to me, and I wanted to read something different. I am so glad I read this book.

Told in third person omniscient, this may be hard to follow for some readers, but wasn't a problem for me. The story switches between the 18th century and present day, mostly in Paris. Vampires used "patrons" for blood. Once someone is marked with a vampire's bite, no one wants them--they're basically used goods.

But Vivianne's patron is murdered by a werewolf (yes, there are werewolves in this book), and the Council (of paranormals) wants to know who would blatantly kill a vampire when there was no motive.

Enter Rhys Hawkes. Not overly attractive, just ruggedly good-looking. He wants a seat on the Council and the only way to prove himself is by solving the murder. During a ball, Rhys scopes out Constantine--the vampire leader. Constantine killed Rhys's lover many years before and Rhys still holds a grudge, vowing to one day seek revenge. And when the sight of Vivianne lights up Constantine's face, Rhys knows exactly how to do it.

While the competition heats up, so does the sexual tension. This book was more blood than sex, though. There are several twists, but I want you to read and find out what they are. For anyone who wants a love story with aggressive vampire/werewolf action, then this is the book for you.
