Every Wednesday I'll blog about my progress on a new piece.
BUT (and this is a big but) I want to hear what you guys are working on, and how far along you are. That way we can cheer each other on and set goals.
My goal? To reach 10k by the end of this weekend. I'm currently sitting at 6.9k (might as well say 7k), so 10k isn't entirely out of reach. So, I'll be busy the rest of the week and this weekend.
What about you guys? What are you working on? Do you have any word count goals you set for yourself?
I got three WIPs in progress, plus a few others stashed under my bed where they can't bug me. LOL Im currently rewriting spheres, new title and a new structure, so I'm 3000 words in. Haunted Orphan is at 10 000, and hopefully I'll manage to finish the first draft by the end of May. The third wip, is untitled, and currently at 5 000. This one is probably gonig to end up binned for a bit, until I can find the strength to deal with all 8 girls and the MC because they have very strong personalities .... yes they do my head in LOL In a good way. :)
ReplyDeleteGo Becca!!
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to reach 40k by the end of the week. I'm currently at 33,779 an if I stop slacking this should be an achievable goal!! My overall goal is to be done my fist draft by May 1st. :)
Go Becca! I bet you can reach 10k no problem :)
ReplyDeleteI'm working on...nothing. Just finished some revisions, and there are a couple things vying for my attention now. We'll have to see what I settle on!
Marilyn - Three?! Girl, I don't know how you do it. My characters would beat me up if I cheated on them. :P
ReplyDeleteVero - YOU GO GIRL!! 40k is HUGE. I know you can do it. :D
Kaitlin - I can't wait to see what you decide to write! You know I'm here if you need a beta! :)
I'm currently working on my Greek Mythology/Fantasy SNI. It's got 29,500 words. Want to reach 36,000 words until Friday...
ReplyDeleteWe'll see how that goes... :D
Suzanne - You can totally do it! FWIW, I love Greek mythology! ;)
ReplyDeleteGood work, Becca! I'm working on revisions and in the extremely early stages of my next WIP. Early being I'm trying to force myself to come up with some kind of outline because all I have now is an idea. :)
ReplyDeletePam - It won't be long and you'll be up and running with that idea! :)
ReplyDeleteYay Bex, you're doing great. I'm working on my edgy-pregnancy-contemp, although I need to do edits. By next week I hope to have an extra 5K on it and at least 1/4 of my edits done on the dystopian. Wow, that's a lot!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
Jenn - Whoa, girl! I love edgy stuff. Can't wait to read that. ;) I believe you will have 5k by next week. *rubs temples* *prophesizes* <--I think I just made up a word, btw.
ReplyDeletei'm working on not losing my mind until someone buys my book.
ReplyDelete*loses mind*
oh CRAP.
*cries*
I have two WIP's on the go. The one currently being worked on is sitting at a word count of 14k. The 2nd one has been shelved for the time being, but was sitting at 21k. The second one needs a serious rework though.
ReplyDeleteHoping to get to 20k on newest WIP. I promised to beta read someone elses work once their edits are finished, so not sure how viable that is.
Tahereh - Oh noes! *hands her mind back* I found it on the floor. :/ *crosses fingers your book sells quickly* :D
ReplyDeleteJason - Only 6k more and you'll reach your goal!! That's not bad at all. Here's hoping you reach it SOON. :)
I'm about three chapters from finishing (the first draft) of the novel I'm currently working on. This book has been interesting because I'm co-authoring it with a really good friend. Writing a book together has been interesting and a lot more social than doing so alone. I've actually really enjoyed the process. We are over 100,000 words but know we'll be trimming a lot out as we go back over it again. I'm hoping we finish those last three chapters this coming week! *crosses fingers*
ReplyDeleteLani - I'm rooting for ya! Only three chapters? pfft! piece. of. cake. You've got this. :D
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I'm inching closer to finishing draft one right now. At around 80K. It took a long time to get here (just over a year) but I think the revision process will be easier now that I have a very clear idea of the whole picture. Good luck on getting to 10K. Writing goals are a great way of challenging yourself. So is reaching out to the online world. I can't tell you how many times I got out of writers blocks thanks to #amwriting and #yalitchat conversations on Twitter..!
ReplyDeleteKatie - 80k is awesome!! That takes a lot of dedication and hard work to pull off that many words. And trust me, editing is A LOT more fun than writing a first draft. :D
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! I'm at about 16k and hoping to reach 20k by the end of the weekend.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love your blog!
I just started a new project, one I've had in my head for the past--nearly--three weeks. It's going to be about 50,000 words, the shortest piece I've ever worked on, and I'm 2,000+ words in so far. That hasn't happened in a while, so I'm happy about it.
ReplyDeleteI like your new picture, by the way. It's pretty. And I totally think you'll reach your goal of 10,000 words!
Elizabeth - (I love your name, btw) I'm so glad you stopped by! Pull up a chair more often. ;) And I totally believe you can reach 20k by the end of the weekend. Must. Push. Forward. :D
ReplyDeleteRemilda - You are toooooo sweet! *hugs* *hugs again* 2k is better than 0k, right? It is. ;) Don't you just love new projects? Personally, it's the idea of working with new characters that I love. And there have been books shorter than 50k, so no worries. You can do it!! :D
Editing. I may never finish. Ever.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the 10K!
Kate - *smacks* You will totally finish. Editing's the easy part. *pushes Kate back to editing* Finish! :D
ReplyDeleteRight now, I'm editing one manuscript. I have a second that's slowly going through a critique group. Soon, I'll start something new. I have a one-page rough idea and a few pages of the beginning ready to go.
ReplyDeleteHope your WIP is progressing.
Theresa - Two manuscripts at an almost-ready phase is definitely a good thing! Good luck on the new idea, and here's hoping you finish it quickly. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was packing up some of my belongings last week preparing for my move I found an old story I had originally began when I was attending the Community College of Denver. I read through some of the story before boxing it up with some other belongings. A few days latter I thought wait a minute that was a decent story though it’s still just a rough draft it’s worth completing. So aside of blogging as a daily writing project I’ve also made it a goal to write at least a paragraph if not more on the Dr. Monroe story. When I get to my apartment and get settled I’ll dig out the original version of the story and merge the two. Hopefully my word count will dramatically increase. My other goal is setting time aside every week to work on the Razor Girl project. RG combines writing, photography and graphic artistry. At the moment I am working in photo shop attempting to get the text to wrap around the body of the model.
ReplyDeleteBurning - Don't you love finding old pieces of work? It's like finding buried treasure, IMO. Sounds like writing and photography are keeping you busy! Best of luck to you! :)
ReplyDeleteWe finished the first draft!
ReplyDeleteLani - YAYAYAYAY! That's so great! I'm excited for you. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks! Now comes the second draft. :)
